Abstract

This paper reports on the 2nd Digital Ludeme Project (DLP) Workshop, which brought together researchers from artificial intelligence, game studies, archaeology, and cultural heritage.

The workshop focused on the use of the Ludii system for modelling, analysing, and reconstructing traditional games, and explored interdisciplinary challenges at the intersection of AI and humanities.

Discussions covered topics such as game reconstruction, game concepts, AI methods, and educational applications, highlighting the emergence of digital archaeoludology as a research field.

Context

This workshop report reflects the interdisciplinary nature of the Digital Ludeme Project, combining artificial intelligence with historical and cultural studies of games.

It highlights the role of Ludii as a central platform for collaboration between researchers from diverse backgrounds, including AI, archaeology, history, and education.

The workshop also contributed to defining research directions and community guidelines for studying traditional games using computational methods.
