Abstract
The French Military Game, described in the 19th century, models strategic manoeuvres involving cavalry brigades attempting to encircle an opposing force.
In this work, the game is analysed using the Ludii general game system, which enables formal modelling and computational analysis of traditional games.
The results confirm historical claims that the first player can force a win within a bounded number of moves, demonstrating how modern AI tools can validate and extend classical analyses of games.
Context
This work is part of the Digital Ludeme Project, which aims to study and preserve traditional games using computational methods.
It illustrates how Ludii can be used not only for AI research, but also for the analysis of historical and cultural artefacts.
The study bridges artificial intelligence, mathematics, and cultural heritage, contributing to the emerging field of digital archaeoludology.
